I recently purchased a lightly used 1972 1407 54 Match with spare 1413 stock for use in some club benchrest and smallbore matches. Got it at a good price and luckily have plenty of ammo to feed it for a while.
It has a U9 trigger and am looking for information on trigger adjust and action torque a pdf of an owners manual if one is available.

Any ideas on the info mentioned above?

From the pics the 1407 stock is more of a 1974 style. The fore end on the '72 is deeper and less tapered.

Also, the taper in front of the receiver does indicate this is the proper barrel for a 1407.

Action screw torque, 40-50 in-lbs. Without any testing I go straight for 45 in-lbs. Use caution, do not get to feisty with the front screw as the treads for the front screw in that era have a tendency to pull out. (A metal hardening issue)

Also, for that era, if you look at the barrel just ahead of the serial number will be the last two digits of the year of manufacture.

I will look around for the link on adjusting that trigger. Not much to them.

Have a look at the Anschutz website. They have a number of manuals avialable for download (free), and include those for past models. You'll want the 1971 dated Match 54 manual.

Quickly, your trigger is adjustable for weight, and take-up (the distance the trigger moves before firing). The weight adjustment screw is above the trigger blade (accessible through the hole in the stock); turn the screw clockwise to increase the weight. The take-up screw is in front of the trigger (reachable through a hole in the trigger guard) – turn clockwise for more movement.

I wouldn't go much over 45in/lb torque. If the stock has not been bedded or reinforced with pillars, too much pressure can damage the wood.

'Dude I though the 1407 stock was made a wee bit deeper a little earlier than '74, say around '72/'73.

That is the all in one manual for the target rifles. About page 5 you will find the directions for the U9 trigger. A word of caution, the translation did not appear to come through completely clearly, screw 79 more sets the engagement of the second stage than truly adjusts the pull weight of the trigger.

Tim, you are correct the 72 vintage 1407 stock has a deeper forend all the way out. Both the 74 and 72 have about the same depth back at the trigger guard but the 74 was very noticeably more tapered out front. I think 73 was the changeover year to the more tapered design but that was 40 years ago so I cannot say for sure.

I can say from experience that you need to be careful with the torque on 70's Anschutz rifles. I always used 35 in-lbs. I also torque checked the gun everytime I shot by loosening and retightening. After about 25 years I stripped out the threads on one of the holes in the action and had to have it drilled out and retapped for a larger thread. The gunsmith suggested that I should have been tightening it and leaving it alone most of the time, maybe only checkng it when there was large temperature or humidity changes (like going from the east coast to Arizona or Colorado Springs).
