Walther's LGR model was introduced in 1974 and revolutionaized the match air rifle world which at the time was exclusively springer type systems. Immediately after its introduction, the LGR broke both the individual and team 10-meter world records. This forced the international shooting union to reduce the size of the 10-meter air rifle target to where it remains today. The LGR also motivated all their match air rifle competitors to ultimately drop the springers and move into the pneumatic era. By leaving the LGR's breech unlocked during storage seal-life is quite long and the rifle is an accurate match rifle suitable for beginning matchmen, casual shooters, and/or collectors. A true classic. Champions Choice and Randy Bimrose can service and replace seals (breech and value) for the LGR.

The LGR production ended in 1989 and was replaced with the LG-90 (and a CO2 version - the CG-90). These were followed by the Walhter's LGM-1 which was introduced in 1992 and replaced a few years later in 1993 with the LGM-2 model. The LGM-1 series was a laminated stock, single stroke pnuematic similar to Feinwerkbau's 600/601/602 rifles. Production of the LGM series ended in 1989. The LGM-1 and LGM-2 suffer no "fatal flaws" and Champions Choice has the parts and services these fine rifles.

I'm sure Jim's info regarding the Walther LGR air rifle are correct, however I'm sure the last air rifle target size change was at Jan. 1989. At that time UIT (now ISSF),had a whole sale rule changes, target size of 50M smallbore rifle, 10M air rifle; air pistol; running game, 25M rapid fire pistol, etc. etc. were reduced or changed. Also, the final shoot off were introduced. Before 1989, the 10 ring on the air rifle target is a dot of 1 MM dia. I still got some of those target in my basement, now I use them as reduced range pratice target for air pistol.

I think the dot was changed from 1 MM to .5 MM earlier than 1989. I DO know that my LGR and I spent many a happy hour shooting at those 1 MM dots!
