Promoting Junior Pistol Shooting

The other thing in my opinion as a coach who has shot and coached junior and college shooters for the last 48 years would be to PROMOTE FORMATION OF JUNIOR CLUB TEAMS ( with coaches) that would GROW THE SPORT.

One way of doing would be to form a group of instructors who would be available to hold a 3-4 day clinic at a location where PTO's or NRA Int'l matches are currently being held.

The idea would be to invite 2-4 clubs that wish to form a junior air pistol team to come to that location. They would be instructed to bring all there adults (preferably at least one per junior) and there juniors. One instructor would teach 1-2 adults from each club the VERY BASICS of how to coach. One instructor would teach the other adults how to run a club ( all of the available aids, funds, etc). One or two instructors would teach the juniors basic safety and marksmanship. It could be arranged ahead of time to have the club plan to purchase the Tau pistols available through USA Shooting or have Daisy pistols available or both.

On the last day the adults would conduct a match that the juniors would shoot.

Then the clubs would be encouraged to come back to the same location for monthly matches.

It would help encourage this if there were National CLUB TEAM RECORDS where the competitors actually shot at that club on a regular basis instead of NAME ONLY.

It would help if the TEAM AND JUNIOR COMPETITION AT THE NATIONALS WAS GIVEN MORE PUBLICITY.
