Does anyone know the difference between the FWB P-70 and the FWB P-700 in wood laminate stocks? Are the changes worth the extra investment for the P-700?

Let me state up front that I have never handled a P70, so I hope the information below is correct. I have a FWB P700 and am tremendously pleased with it. It puts the pellets through the same hole, and is, at least to me, completely recoilless.

I believe the FWB P700 has an updated absorber system. The absorber is located directly behind the breech, in line with the barrel axis. The idea is that if there were any felt recoil, it would be directed straight back. I am not certain, but I read something somewhere that led me to believe that on the P70, the absorber mechanism is situated more to one side.

The P700 also has a slightly different method of cocking- it uses a lever on the right side which pulls the breech open in line with the barrel/receiver. The P70 has a flip-up loading port. I also read somewhere that some plastic pieces are involved in the assembly. If you ever intend to use the P70 with a scope, you will have to purchase a shorter loading port cover. You will *probably* have no problem with the P700, because the cocking lever is offset. It is all-aluminum construction on the P700.

The laminate stock on both models appear to be identical. The P700's aluminum stock is slightly more adjustable than the P70's, and has built-in sight risers, which I like.

Is it worth the extra price? Like I said, I have never handled a P70, although I know it is, and has been, a top match rifle for some time. I elected to by the P700 (Aluminum) because I thought that since I'm already spending so much money, I may as well pay a little more for the latest improvements. I also liked the loading/cocking mechanism better.

One more thing- I noticed on notice that the standard FWB P70 is no longer listed on the updated FWB website. The higher-power P70 (Field target) still is. Perhaps FWB has discontinued manufacture of the P70.

Sorry for the vague answer, but no one had answered your post after a couple of days so I took a shot at it.

I forgot to mention that the P700 also has a built-in dryfire capability. It has a switch located by the breech. To dryfire the P70, you have to purchase and use a $12 fitting, or partially unscrew the cylinder. Not a big deal.

The P700 has a larger (one piece) receiver than the 70 which is in two parts, with the barrel clamped by three screws - a much more solid construction. All models of the P70 apart from the FT version (as stated) have now been discontinued.
