On behalf of the the many shooters out there, our sincere thanks and seasons greetings to our three "NGB"s who do so much to support shooting programs in the USA.
To the NRA, who provides us with great coaching programs and a competitions division that does an outstanding job in supporting national-level matches. Not to mention a legislative arm that protects our rights and watches over us.
To USA Shooting, who runs and manages the Jr. Olympics, an important part of shooter development. This continues to be a VERY important match for juniors and their shooting career(s).
And to the CMP, who helped us get air rifles at a great price which allowed our programs to blossom. Without this help, no doubt we'd be far worse off.
Finally....
I have seen these organizations catch their fair shair of flack over the past months, and now it's time that we recognize them positively.

From all the shooters and coaches,
Thanks NRA, USAS and CMP!

Bill,
Thanks for bringing it up, and congratulations on your club's great achievements this season!
The first thing we did when we began our junior 3P program was to affiliate with the NRA, CMP, USA Shooting, and our state NRA organization. The second thing we did was ask for help.
I have to acknowledge the huge amount of financial support that our junior club has been given by the NRA Range Grant Program (no longer active) and the NRA Foundation through its grant program. Between them they have almost completely funded equipment purchases for our junior program. This enables us (the AIAC Juniors of Arlington Height, IL) to provide all of the equipment needed for sporter-class air rifle competition to our juniors for the yearly cost of buying about 1 shooting glove. This helps us bring in students that may not be able to afford to participate otherwise. Thanks NRA!
The other major contributor to our club has been the CMP and its IL Junior Directors - Raymond and Tina Odle. They provided all of the coach training for our club. This was especially important because none of the new 3P coaches had any previous rifle competition experience, most (like myself) were pistol shooters. Thanks CMP!
USA Shooting's Martin Edmondson has also helped us get our club going, providing us with valuable information and support when we needed it most. Thanks USA Shooting!
Our IL NRA affiliate, the Illinois State Rifle Assn. (ISRA) has helped us by providing additional insurance at no cost for our junior club, as well as funding a trip for 13 junior shooters from across IL to the NRA National Junior Air Gun Team Championship in Wilmington, NC this past July. Thanks ISRA!
As you can see, we have a lot of people to thank for helping us get our program going. With their help we grew from 10 students and 6 firing-points to our current size of 30 students and 16 firing-points. In less than 2 years we have introduced over 50 teenage students to the shooting sports. Though not all of them have continued, they have left with a clear understanding of proper safety when handling a gun.
Our next step, and hopefully the next step for other junior clubs, is starting a junior air pistol team. The NRA, CMP, and USA Shooting have recently been discussing how to increase junior air pistol participation in the U.S. Hopefully together we can get junior air pistol to grow like junior air rifle has.
