Help with SCATT Mx-W2

Post by Mk4Zero »

I can’t get my SCATT Mx-W2 past calibration. It can detect a shot as indicated in preview mode and the sound bar being exceeded but it won’t read the target no matter the distance or lighting

I have SCATT’s proprietary LED Box and tried it in total darkness and with light. Different backgrounds from light to dark

I’ve tried a paper on my wall per recommendation with 1000 a lumen light

I have a laser measuring tool and have tried different distances from 2 to 10m, adjusting the SCATT along the way. I even tried shooting it by just adjusting the focus dial while at different distances, slowly, to just try to get past calibration

SCATT USA hasn’t picked up the phone nor have they answered emails

I’ve also used the SCATT Expert in iOS, MacBook, and PC. None of them will go past calibration

Any recommendations?

Below are some examples of what I’ve tried and what SCATT see’s

Try some other lamps. Or during the day just to rule that lamp out. I have seen it have issues with specific (often LED) lamps due to strobing that is not visible to the eye.

When you are in calibration and the preview mode box is unchecked, do you see a red dot when you are aiming at the target?
Then when you shoot, does the red dot register as a calibration shot?

I’ve tried different LED’s. Also just learned it’s 1000 LUX not lumen. So I trialed 800-14000 lumen and no go

Also checked my LED’s with slow motion video and see no strobing

On PC I was in calibration with preview mode unchecked

I’ve never seen a red dot in SCATT Expert for iOS, Mac, or PC

But, in preview mode, when I take a shot it will register and show the SCATT view when trigger was detected, once I aim the pistol downwards

I’m using official SCATT targets that you print from the app

Do you have any recommended lamps to buy? I’m happy to just buy a specific light if I can make it work—just like my SCATT LED Box which doesn’t work!

You should see a red dot when you are calibrating. See this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I50FO6bAk8Y.

It looks like your target is in the center of the camera, but the software is not recognizing it. One time I could not find the red dot because I had chosen the wrong target type in the software setup.

If you already tried multiple lights then that's maybe not the problem. Before buying anything I'd try it during the day in a naturally lit room. It it still doesn't work then It's probably not a light issue.

The only lamps that do not have flickering that generates stroboscopic effects are filament lamps, the old filament lamps, whether common or halogen, try using this type of lamps

This could be an issue with the angle of the SCATT device. The suggestion about the red dot is very relevant. The preview gives you a general idea of where the target is but it is not good for ensuring that the device is aligned to detect the shot.

Make sure that the cap for shooting outdoors is not on.

The wall looks and lighting looks good. I have no issues with led lights.

Put the SCATT in calibration mode and aim. If you see a red dot (referenced here in the instructions https://www.olympicpistol.com/mxw2man/# ... alibration inside the black circle you are ok (as long as the shot is detected). When you shoot, the shot should be somewhere in the black circle as a violet dot (you can see it in a picture here
https://www.olympicpistol.com/scatt-exp ... l-shooter/.

If you don't see the red dot, move the pistol around to try to find it. If you find it, this will help you understand towards where to change the angle. You change the angle by turning the brass screws.
