I'm new to shooting, 8 weeks. PB is 515 and shooting a steyr evo 10 sport (manual).

What I'd love to know is from the athletes who have shot a score of 600. Was it luck? Have you done it more than once? (This feels like when I was a kid and I was asking my older brother about s€x!, whats it like lol)

Anyway, to achieve this, was there anything in particular you did? E.g. centre hold, narrow sights, rest after every 5 shots, etc..

Currently I shoot sub 6 O'clock hold just below the 5 ring, may try the centre hold just to experiment.

I train every night, dry firing and practicing the continuous pull smooth triggering. I also swim 3x a week and gym (general compound body weight exercises) 3x a week, and shoot at my local club when I can.

Any comments welcome. Thought would make an interesting topic.

Gonna need Albert Einstein or Buck Rogers to blast you thru a wormhole to find a 600.

Current World Record is 594
Olympic Record is 591
Most international competitions end with the top shooters at 580+
So no, no one has reached 600 and probably no one will ever be able to.

Stick to sub six. You want the contrast between the black of your sights and the white/yellow of the target to get a good sight alignment.

Swimming is very good exercise for pistol shooting, weights are not.
They make you lose some of the finer motor skills you need for pistol (if you over do them...).

I've read alot about sub 6 aim, it is very difficult as it's hard to judge how much white should be below the black ring. I'm surprised centre hold isn't more popular as it's much easier to aim at the thing you want to hit and you also have to concentrate harder to visualise the foresight against the grey background. Also I think I read somewhere that one of the shooting records was done with a centre hold, so surely that's a fairly strong argument to do centre?

I'm not trying to be difficult just asking questions around the subject to gain a wider understanding of the issues.

Not after your 10,000th trigger pull. It becomes more what you feel than what you see. My groups on a blank target are just as tight as my groups on a regular target because I'm not looking at the target anyway.

There is so much wrong with this statement that it is not funny.
If you are looking at where to hit, YOU ARE LOOKING AT THE TARGET and not your foresight.
You cannot focus on three things at once, some people believe that you can but in fact your focus is rapidly
moving from Target to foresight to rear sight and is just putting the last image into memory to be refreshed later.
This rapid movement will cause fatigue very quickly and performance drops.
A iris can help change the field of vision but again causes eye fatigue.
Looking at the target is for some service/action shooting but not for precision shooting.
In precision shooting we use a lens to fool the eye and bring the focus back to the foresight, nice, sharp and clear.
The target is a blur and the rear sight a lesser blur.
Look at the drawings above, this is what you want to see and with the least amount of eye strain possible.
