Tec-HRO Fanatic Forearm Width

Post by mtncwru »

Anyone have a Tec-HRO Fanatic that they'd be willing to measure the forearm width on? I'm in the market for a stock to replace my Precise, and my number one complaint is the forearm width: it's narrower than I'd like but finding an alternative that isn't $3000+ has been a challenge.

Appreciate any help/suggestions that folks have!

Extremely helpful, thank you so much!

How do you like the stock in general? I'd likely only be using it for prone.

I have had three different barreled actions in it, Anschutz 2013, Walther KK500, and Barnard P for my Palma/center fire mid/long range activities. The Barnard setup is what is pictured. I made some changes to cheek piece & butt plate to get it to fit me and am very pleased with it. I also have an Anschutz Precise stock that I like for my smallbore rifle, purchased the Tec-Hro, so I could have it be my center fire setup. Only used for prone.

There are a few stocks out there from mild to wild in terms of price point. Tec-Hro being more reasonable.

This one from SE has caught my eye https://www.shootingequipment.de/en/Wea ... ape-H.html and if I ever find the right barreled action, I might order one up to give it a try. You could probably email SE directly for more details on the forend.

A few years back an acquaintance ordered a MEC stock. Liked the stock OK but had to find a company to laser etch marking onto the forend and buttstock so he could set things without using a tape measure or ruler.

Good luck in your search.

'Dude,

My Gemini has a scale along the fore-end, but fairly coarse, I settled on a strip of masking tape. It's not as pretty as laser etching, but much cheaper, and surprisingly durable.

Apologies to the OP for the tangent.

Masking (or similar) tape gets it done as well.

There are a number of options for off the shelf stocks these days. As the OP pointed out some of them are very expensive (here's look'n at you G&E) while others would make me a little more willing to take a chance knowing I could recoup my money if it did not work out but someone else wanted to give it a try.

It would seem they could all include some kind of usable scale: cut, engraved or cast into the metal somehow. (Not that hard to do) And yeah, I would pay a bit more for a stock knowing that I did not have to dink around creating a scale to be able to track adjustments.

All fun stuff. Yeah, apologies to OP for going a bit off topic.

No apologies necessary -- I appreciate the details and the lived experiences with those stocks. I saw the SE as well and I did find what I think is a forearm width: it's the same as the Precise if memory serves (though now, of course, I can't find where I tracked it down).

I''ve heard the same about the MEC: that it's a great stock (and I've held one! It is!) but the lack of a measurement scale is a baffling design decision on their part.

I strongly suspect that a 1914 would fit my needs, MSRP on the stock alone is enough that I wanted to investigate other options.

Have you thought about trying a different glove rather than changing the stock? A stiffer or slightly bulkier one might well solve the problem

That's a thought, and certainly a cheaper option than a new stock. I'm using a Monard Proliner right now, which seems quite stiff already. I suppose I could give something with more bulk a try though.

Another option to increase the forearm width or change the corner radius is a bolt-on forearm section.

I've made a few for guys that preferred the height and corner radius feel of an 1813-style forearm over their Precise stocks. The last one I made was for a Fanatic stock. Depending how you orient your support hand, the relatively small radius corners of the Fanatic can really hurt.

If you're interested, PM me. The ones I make use T-nuts to mount to the existing rail, AND have a section of Anschutz rail for mounting a handstop on the same surface your hand touches.

Ah yeah, those squared-off corners were also giving me pause. I appreciate the suggestion and offer! I'll keep that in mind as an option.

Ah it was something like the Proliner I had in mind, I doubt you'll find much stiffer. Maybe another option might be to find a piece of thick leather or rubber etc, and put that in the palm of your hand to try and imitate a wider stock? If it worked maybe you could cut it to shape and glue the bits to the Proliner material? I don't think that would break any rules if it's under 12mm for ISSF

Hey 'Greyhounds,

While I did not mention it, changing the profile had skittered through my addled brain. Nice solution.

Where are you getting the forend rail? In the era of aluminum stocks fewer and fewer supply housed carry rail.

Thanks

There are some high power gloves that might be worth a shot -- big leather & rubber things intented as an over-mitt. I'm also not *too* worried about ISSF rule compliance: it's exceptionally rare that I shoot under that ruleset anymore (what with Prone being removed from the Olympics) and I'm much more likely to be under US NRA or US CMP. I'll have to double-check the CMP rules, but for gear like that they usually try to stay fairly permissive.

Another option for you is this, it is adjustable in width.

I have one available in stock, PM me if you want more information.

'Dude,

Thank you. You can get blank rail from Freeland or replacement Anschutz rail with scribe marks and holes from Champion's Choice.

These T-nuts fit in the Anschutz rail profile and work well for coupling things.
