Those of you who shoot indoors at 25m/25yd - do you allow people to use supersonic ammo (e.g. RWS R100) in your range? If so, how much noisier is it for people in the building?

Julian,

What does it say on your Range Certification?

From memory, my club's range is certified up to 1700fps ( or 200ft/lb), which I gather was the MOD's default back in the day. RWS R100 runs at 1100-1150 fps I think, so technically it would be fine, unless your range has a much lower certification.

As for noise, I suspect R100 will be louder. My club had some Eley Action+ last year as a stop gap; every round sounded like a fouled from a totally clean barrel, much louder than 1050-60 fps ammo. It wasn't unpleasant to shoot next to, but was distracting. We were glad to finish the batch. If your club is in a residential area, and has to be conscious of noise, it might be an idea to get a sound meter and check.

It disrupts our electronic targets (false positives on SIUS trainer). I typically only allow HV in training if everyone is shooting paper.

Not legal in NCAA matches and produces false readings on Mega Link targets. Most likely not as accurate as standard velocity.

R100 is Match ammunition. The wind deflection would be greater than 1050fps ammo, but that would make no odds on a 25yd gallery range.
