Competing in Southern CA

Hello:

So, I’m interested in getting (back?) into things like the the collegiate / HS style 3P air rifle shooting I used to do when I was in high school. Thing is, I don’t live anywhere close to someplace like the CMP facilities at Fort Perry where a lot of in person competitions in these disciplines exists. I’m aware of the CASA group that does field target in Ventura County, but that’s not quite what I’m after. I’m also aware that USA Shooting occasionally does quals in the LA area

Basically, does *anyone* do ISSF style airgun shooting in Southern California?

You might want to give Field Target a try. You just might enjoy it. It's a lot of things all wrapped into one game. It certainly is not as difficult as 10 meter shooting.

Start up your own program.
If you build it they will come.
The National Rifle Association can help.

Southern Cal is a pretty big place, but I'll give my perspective, from Orange County:
I shoot/shot at the Phoenix Club in Anaheim (https://anaheimschuetzen.com/). On the surface it's a German cultural club, but that is not a prerequisite to join and they had an amazing 10m airgun range up until a few months ago. The club is moving and down-sizing, unfortunately, but will hopefully be back up in a few more months in Brea. We generally err toward the "recreational" side of shooting (no jackets, pants, etc), but it's been a great place to shoot. And drink beer, if you're into that sort of thing....

Another option may be the LA R&R Club (http://www.larrclub.org/). I don't know that they do air rifle, but they do smallbore. I haven't actually made it up there myself, but I've been meaning to for years....

If you find other options, let me know!

LARR is a good suggestion. I know they had a 10m airgun program at one time but the recent CA State advertising to minors regs has put the brakes on a lot of those but give them a call.
