IZH-35M/IJ-35 - Slide stop

Post by Luis Albergaria Pacheco »

Dear friends,
I live in Portugal and am in the process of buyng a standart baikal IZH-35M/IJ-35. I was told this pistol is not legal for standart pistol match, because the slide is not kept open after the last round is shot. Is this correct? Can the pistol be modifyed to correct this "problem".
Thank you,
Luis Pacheco

Luis there is no regulation that says that a standard pistol must remian open after the fifth shot. If that were the case the MG2, Pardini's, etc. would not be legal as well---your IZH35M is a wonderful standard pistol---and will be competitive with all guns costing five times as much.

The IJ35 is legal in standard pistol. Most modern standardpistols does not keep the slide open after the last shot.
The only "problem" is that you have to put some object between the chamber and the slide to keep it open when you put down the pistol between shooting series, as there is no device to keep the slide open like in other pistol. A piece of plastic will do the job, however.
On the Walther KSP200, which is a Baijkal with a new name, Walther has made a slide stop that makes it possible to lock the slide in open position. A good gunsmith would probably be able to make a similar solution on an IJ35.

PS. All owners of the Baijkal IJ35 seems to be satisfied with the pistol!

DJ Precision (link - http://user.mc.net/`drweber/)makes a barrel weight (also in aluminum if you don't want extra weight)for the IJ and IZH with a built-in slide-stop. You just open the slide and push the button on the bottom of the barrel weight with your finger - works a lot better than the stock IZH one on the shroud.
