Now before evertbody starts sneering at Chiappa, I have two of their products (6004 and 6007),and I can't fault their quality. All made by CNC machines these days, which means that they are all perfect.

Low barrel line makes it illegal for ISSF.

Can someone provide an accurate history for the manufacturer? How did we go from DOMINO (1980-ish) to FAS/DOMINO to CHIAPPA?

I'm wondering whether the "Richard Wilson" mentioned on the web site is the same one who, I believe, did some work with the S&W custom shop back in the mid 1990s.

I have been watching that pistol for about a year. I’m waiting for it to be made and stainless steel and at 1/2 the current MSRP.

I think it will be a long wait.

It strikes me as a - made by CNC machines these days, which means that it is perfect - boat anchor.

Nobody bought them when they were MATEBA. Why should anybody buy it now?

The 601/602/604 used to be very popular in Italy in the mid '70s early '80s, much more affordable than imports.

I don't have any experience with Chiappa, but I find the name funny (I think it's a last name, but it also means "b*tt cheek" in Italian)

Every time someone posts an expensive gun it gets met with a lot of flak. "I could buy 5 or 6 blah blah blah for that." My 1k custom pooper scooper is better and more accurate."My three huntert dollar Taaa rus is better made and will out shoot it." All this comes from people who either cant afford one or quoting something someone said on the internet that has no experience with the firearm.

I have used one that is owned by a fellow Club member. The recoil is uniquely subdued and less/different than my .32 S&W L with the manufacturing and machining being very good.

However It had one of the heaviest triggers I have ever used and made handling and firing the revolver very difficult.
If I had been sure the trigger could be tamed and it had met ISSF requirements I would definitely have bought one. A very unique pistol that redefines recoil,

Did you use a Mateba or the Chiappa Rhino?

What would be REALLY interesting would be a Rhino with a gas seal system (TOZ49 et al), with realigned grip such that ISSF rules are complied with AND a gas operated re-cocking system. Now there we'd have a game changer - ISSF C/F SA pistol that would not require all that Emu dip to find ejected cases! On the other hand one could buy a Pardini HP with case catcher...

But it would be REALLY, REALLY interesting!!! ;)

When I first went to work at my current employer, they were working on a gyro stabilized sniper rifle. They needed an experience rifle shooter to test it out & give them feed back on the design, and I got volunteered. Shooting (dry firing) standing, once I got on target, it definitely helped. The had an optical tracking system (home-made SCATT), and it cut my wobble area about in half.

Internal military politics killed it. They had elite snipers evaluating it, and the last thing an elite sniper wants is a gadget that will turn your average soldier into an elite sniper... They came up with all sorts of bogus excuses as to why it wasn't useful.

I don’t know Leon but it came from Mialls Firearms in Frankston Victoria.
