Hi,

I recently bought an Anschutz 2002 SSP for 10 meter target shooting in my basement. The trigger is extremely light (measured at ~70 grams), and the trigger is a single stage. I was expecting a two stage trigger per the manual (5021). I removed the stock, but was not able to find a part number on the trigger. I do not think my model is the RT version (RT shows it uses the 5023D trigger) - maybe someone can tell me an easy way to check.

I am wondering if it is two stage trigger where the first stage has just been adjusted out? I did tweak the screw that sets first stage travel, but there was no difference.

Any advice on checking model number or finding specific features to identify the trigger would greatly appreciated.

If I remember correctly the 5021 is a variant of the 5018. Yes this can be adjusted to single stage, I always did with mine, and can be put back to two stage. The manual has instructions. If your rifle didn't come with a manual, you can download one free from the Anschutz website. I find the current Smallbore version is the clearest.

It's not just first stage travel (screw at the very front) that you need to adjust, if the rifle was properly adjusted to single stage. You get a single stage by fully turning out the first stage travel screw, and then reducing sear engagement (screw 2, immediately in front of the trigger blade) to a minimum. I find the over travel (screw behind trigger) needs a tweak too. Going to a two stage is the reverse: add in over travel, increase sear engagement, the adjust first stage travel to suit. You'll probably need to tweak the sear engagement; go very carefully here, as you cab muck up the trigger quickly.

I was able to get the first stage to work. The transition between the two stages are not as crisp as I would like, but that is probably a function of the trigger weight being so light (adjusted up from 70 grams to 100 grams, might try a little higher). The first stage weight appears to be set to minimum as the screw was already backed off all the way.
