Pardini K60 Filling Question

I have spent most of my life over on the rifle side but now I have an airgun question.
I just bought a nice Pardini K60. I already had a FWB model 2 so am familiar with that and filling it. I have a 5lb co2 tank without syphon tube so I need to turn it over. Anyway, the pardini came with white o rings around the neck of the filling adapter and around the neck of pistol where the cylinder screws on. There were a few spares too. I messed around with filling the cylinders with these white o-rings in place and it seems like a very poor design. They want to leak and every time I unscrew the cylinder the o-ring almost blows out. Then i tried taking the white o rings off (both the filling adapter and the gun) and filled the cylinders and put them on the gun. There is an o-ring inside the cylinder bore where it screws on so I though maybe that would seal. This seems to work fine. Are these white ones even needed?
