.32 S&W Long and WST powder?

Post by Mike38 »

Does anyone have reloading data, min-max, for reloading .32 S&W Long using 85 grain DEWC .315 cast bullets and Winchester WST powder? This will be shot in a Benelli MP95 Atlanta semi auto target pistol. I'm finding loads on the internet, but they are revolver specific and will not cycle a semi auto. I tried 1.6 grains, and had a 25% failure to extract and believe the slide is not moving fully to the rear. I loaded 20 more rounds using 1.9 grains but haven't shot them yet, am I on the right track?

Greetings,

The Hornady Reloading book used to list tested loads for their 90 grain HBWC, now discontinued.

This would be a good starting point.

Make sure you use the HBWC data, not the SWC data. The bullets have different seating depths.

While WST is not specifically mentioned, you will be able to glean the maximum velocities of the other powders used.

Cheers,

Dave

WST was Don Nygord's favorite powder for loading the 32 S&W Long wadcutters. I used his load in both a APdini SP and a Walther GSP before switching to N310. Unfortunately it has been over a decade since I used a 32 and I must have deleted the date from my files.

Home cast 90g button nose wadcutter with 1.8g WST gave me 760fps in both a Unique and Walther back in 2002.
currently using VV N310 1.5g same bullet in a Hammerli SP20 rrs.

Culled this off the net some time back (the question marks were in the original file; the formatting was better than this shows, though.):
