We need a dictionary

Post by Leadbelly »

Started back shooting 10 meter air pistol after a 32 year lay off. I have been going 3 times a week to the new " Shooting Stars" air gun range. Back in the middle 80's we used CO2 pistols. Now they are all PCP guns. These PCP guns are GREAT. Got my Morini 162 EL on Feb 13 and I am already shooting 520's+. MY Problem is the coaches and other shooters are always using initials not words ! When I say WHAT, they just think this 72 year old man is hard of hearing and yell out the initials again. And I'm not the only one who does not know, we have lot's of new YOUNG shooter's ( It makes me so happy to see New young kids who want to learn Precision shooting )
SO IF YOU AGREE: Will you list these abbreviations and what the mean. I have heard so many, I can't remember them all.

Every time they use acronyms ask What does that mean? They will soon learn not to be so rude. Poor coaching anyway.
I dont think I know any shooting acronyms apart from PCP, SSP, and WTF when you get a flyer.

I once started a list over on another forum.
I could always add any suggestions from here too.

Maybe someone knows of an existing online glossary that we could all add to.

Good list of terms. One new to me was :

NPOA = Natural Point of Aim

Now lets list question and/or answers.

What exactly does PTO stand for, I have shot many in the past but never knew the exact meaning ?

There is a great knowledge base here, let's help everyone the Newbies as well as us FOF's ( Fat old fellows) who have forgot.

Not air related, but:

CBTO - Case (or cartridge) base to ogive
BBTO - Bullet base to ogive

FTE - Failure to eject
FTF - Failure to fire (also Failure to feed, unfortunately)
