Team USA got off to a fairly good start at the IPC World Cup THA today with three finals berths in five starts.
Mike Tagliapietra shot a 562 in P3 (25m Pistol Mixed SH1) to continue his long string of consecutive finals slots in that event. He ended up just out of the medals, finishing 4th behind von Zeuner Kohne from RSA who is almost always an outstanding finals shooter. Gold went to Oleksii Denysiuk from UKR.
In the R4 (10m Air Rifle Standing Mixed SH2) match both US shooters qualified for the final. Jazmin Almlie shot a solid 631.6, raising the Americas Record she held by over 4 points and McKenna Dahl had a 625.2. In the final, Almlie finished 4th, just 0.1 out of the medals and Dahl was right behind her in 5th. Gold went to Gorazd Tirsek from SLO.
In the R3 (10m Air Rifle Prone Mixed SH1) event, Veronika Vadovikova from SVK stole the show with a new World Record of 639.7 in the Qualification round and backed it up with a Gold medal in the final. Americans John Joss and Tammy Delano finished 13th and 27th respectively. John’s 629.9 exactly tied his Americas Record from IPC WC POL 2 years ago.
Only Mike Tagliapietra competes tomorrow, with P1 (10m Air Pistol Men SH1) in the morning and non-Games event P5 (10m Air Pistol Standard SH1) late in the afternoon.
