Is their any guidance for the exposure time of the series (8,6,4 seconds) when using mechanical turning targets? For example if I know the target turners take .25 seconds to completely face, should I add 0 seconds, .25 seconds, or .5 seconds? I'm reading through the US Shooting rules and I'm not seeing anything for it.

As I recall it from a long time back the UIT timings allowed -0 +.02 as the range of variance. Manually timing the system with a mechanical stopwatch against the target edge. Certainly nothing as slow as a quarter second variance would have been accepted. Timing was from starting to face to starting to edge so the physical turning time was irrelevant. I'm sure David Levene will have the exact answer.

The .25 was just a number I tossed out for the turners. So if I understand correctly, the exposure time is the time the targets are actually faced, regardless of how long the targets take to turn.

ISSF Rule 6.4.12.2:-
The automatic turning and timing device must ensure, accurate
and consistent timing and that targets remain in the facing position
for the specified period of time and that targets return to the edgeon
position after the specified time (+0.2 seconds – 0.0 seconds).
a) Timing must start the moment the targets begin to face and
stop the moment they begin to turn away; and
b) If the time is less than specified or greater than 0.2 sec, the
Range Officer, acting either on his own or on instructions
from a Jury Member, must stop the shooting to allow the
timing mechanism to be regulated. In such cases, the Jury
may postpone the start or restart of shooting.

Also 6.4.12.1.a:-
The time for turning to face the athlete must not exceed 0.3
seconds

Got it, thanks for the clarification. I'm thinking I may just rig up start lights to my shooting timer off the buzzer signal. Sort of a halfway mixture of paper targets for scoring, and electronics for timing.
