Hammerli AR 20 vs Air Arms MPR

Post by poogi »

Was browsing the CMP site and saw these two rifles at a reasonable price.

Can I get some opinions on either for some 10m shooting?

The IZH is a proven winner for SSP 10 meter pistol, I've held, but never fired the Air Arms. I liked how light it was and balanced well in my hand with the internal air tank. CMP ships the AA from Pyramid, and they are listed as out of stock until sometime in March, it was Feb., so they may be having a hard time getting them. Either one would be a good investment for entry level 10 meter matches.

45 --- those are Air Rifles

Poogi - depends what you want to shoot....
The Air Arms MPR can be configured as an NRA Sporter or Precision air rifle ... or as a Field Target rifle. It is NOT a CMP sporter air rifle, although it gets snuck into many competitions as one. (It looks a lot like the XSV-40 and the AA T200)
It can also be used as a CMP Precision air rifle though.

The AR-20 is an intermediate level precision air rifle ... many JROTC & collegiate club teams use this rifle. While not a super-duper Olympic style air rifle, it will still hold the ten-X ring (10.2+). It can be used in ISSF, USA Shooting, CMP Precision & NRA Precision Air competitions.
