Daisy 499 buttstock hollow?

Post by lognom »

HI,
i've great on your great forum that the Daisy 499 stock can be drilled and filled with lead shot. However, when I drilled holes in my stock, it appears to be solid. Would anyone here know if the stock design has been changed?

Thanks,
Lloyd

499 Stock

No the wooden stock on current production guns is not hollow. The forearm is cutout from the factory so that you can ad lead. I use a drimmel and take more wood from the forearm so that I can ad additional lead to better balance the weight added to the stock. Keep in mind that if you're using the gun in competition you cannot weigh more than 6 pounds excluding the sling.

I've been a 4-H Coach for 17 years and I've never seen a hollow wooden stock. On the earlier 499, not the B model which is current production, the stock was plastic and it is hollow.
