We like this format!

Why mess with success unless there is a technical reason to change this forum?
This forum is a classic just like a 1957 Chevrolet 2 door, a 1911, a Harley-Davidson, a Anschutz 2002CA, a Steyr LG100. Should I go on?
There are some things that should not be changed. Never try to improve a classic product.

Might give Brian Enos a shout over on his forum.
They used to use the same forum.

I also vote for "if it ain't broke, don't fix it".

I've see n waaay too many forum "upgrades" go sideways over the years.

Please leave it alone. Too many of the "new and improved" formats are much less user-friendly.

I also like the forum the way it is. Which is not to say that I won't like it if it changes appearance.

The form of the forum is Scott's decision - he is putting in the time, money and effort to keep it going and if there is a format that would make it easier to maintain or in any other way more to his liking, so be it. I have never abandoned a forum because of its format, although I have done so because of its content or the attitudes of the other members. What makes TargetTalk.org important to me are the people who show up, share problems, solutions, information and love of Olympic (and Bullseye) shooting sports.

My tuppence, for what it's worth.

A new version of the phpBB forum will not neccesarily be much different. But wil have more possibilities and features. It might not be broke but I think it is great that Scott wants to make it even better!

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. If spam is a huge problem then set up more captcha, and also have more moderators to delete spam.

I know PhPBB is the most unsecure forum software, but there is no need to have a CMS since you are just running a forum.

Do it soon

Change is good. Upgrade now, so if (when) the site crashes later it can be repaired and the data is saved.

Too many people out there don't know how hard it is to fix old technology and that the companies don't support the products any more. Have you ever tried to get a rear seat mount for a 51' Nash?

You will always have someone complaining about innovation and change, but they don't have to deal with the problems.

Perhaps you could also consider Tapatalk so that it is easier to navigate with mobile devices.
