Which weight works best (90/95/100 or 165/170/180g) for a long barrel X-esse and does anyone have a torque specification for mounting the weight?

While not something to set the ISSF world on fire the X-esse looks like it will work well for me in NRA Conventional Pistol. Are there alternatives to the stock magazines? Any hints or tips on care and feeding?

there is no best weight, its what works best for you, trial and error is the only way to find out. a cheap way is to buy stick on 1/4oz weights from harbor freight, you get a big pack for a few bucks, add till you have the feel you want then replace with a factory one close to it. tighten down snug and check from time to time

Have heard and read some interesting info about this pistol. Am curious

as to why you are looking for different magazines; is there something

wrong with the factory offerings? Never held or saw one of these guns up

close, so I know nothing about their construction. Please comment.

The X-esse uses molded plastic magazines. The two that came with mine had the feed lips molded off center to the right about 1 to 1.5mm, leading to rounds being fed to the right of chamber centerline. The left feed lip was thicker than the right feed lip.

I'm expecting to receive two more magazines soon and will check if they are from a batch that are molded on center. I've read that Smith & Wesson Model 41 magazines will fit but haven't had a chance to verify this in the real world.

Update to the thread for anyone else looking for this information.

I went with the heavy barrel weight. What is nice about this pistol being relatively light in its basic form is weight can then be added where needed. With the heavy front weight the X-esse weighs 1130 grams versus a Ruger Mark III at 1190 grams in basic form.

A shop that repairs Walthers and Hammerlis acknowledged that the they had heard of magazines molded off center, but the problem appears rarely. New magazines on the way.
