"Top Shot" featured in Slate Magazine

Post by jr »

Slate Magazine, at www.slate.com , is an online magazine of "news, politics, and culture".
There is a new article today called Top Shot: The Excellent Reality Show That Could Teach Liberals about Gun Culture
It's noteworthy because it would be safe to say that Slate's readership likely has a low rate of gun ownership.

See it at:

This was an interesting read. I for one, gave up watching Top Shot since most of the contests were much more a game of chance than any real marksmanship skill. But I would agree that the sportsmanship I have observed in my involvement with the shooting sports is very high.

This season's Top Shot All Stars had no drama and was all about marksmanship, albeit, some of the weapons weren't traditional for the 21st century. I found it very entertaining and put guns, shooting and shooters in a good light. One can see all the episodes at: http://www.history.com/shows/top-shot

Does anyone know what happened with Brian Zins on the final show? He was eliminated at the first stage because he shot his AK47 far worse than the other three shooters. I have to believe there was something wrong with his gun or some other factor - he's way too fine of a shooter to miss like that.

I was quite surprised by that as well. I would have expected him to be a little bit more analytic about it like the other guy was... shooting around the clock until he registered a 'hit' and found his POA. Doing the same thing over and over expecting a different result is the definition of insane. ;)

Too much of any reality show ends up on the cutting room floor, for you to determine exactly what happened with the gun. I am sure all that sprinting and low crawling hurt the older guys a lot.

They mentioned something about the front sight getting clogged with mud.
I am sure we will hear more details from Brian now that the show is over.
