I see lots of people wearing goofy looking visors on the ISSF channel.
Is it a style thing or all that is permitted?

Most standard caps are permitted but you obviously need to be careful what names and logos are on them (section 4 of the ISSF rules).

At lower levels of competition you need to check with the meeting organisers what they will allow; few will insist on the full section 4 rules.

The ball cap like visors is to protect the shooter from excessive light from above.

They also help prevent hot brass from dropping down behind your shooting glasses...

Skanaker actually designed glasses that are meant to clip on the cap. I do not know if it is a commercial success. I did see at least one competitor in a World Cup use it.

No complaints when I wore a ball cap with my wife's company name on it this week at the nationals.

ISSF rules regarding a visor or cap:

7.5.8.7 Visor or Cap
A cap or visor may be worn, but it must not touch or rest on the
rear sight while the athlete is shooting. The cap or visor may
extend forward of the athlete’s forehead no more than 80 mm and
may not be worn in a way that makes it a side blinder.

As long as a cap or visor does not extend 80mm or touch the sights its fine.

A visor is especially useful when shooting outdoors and you want consistent light in your rear iris.

As the original question was posted in the pistol forum I presume it was regarding pistol shooting.

The rule you quote only applies to rifle. There is no such rule for pistol.

Point taken. I had done a search on visor in the ISSF rules and posted wht I had found without looking at what section it came under.
