i have been thinking some thing like this for awhile.
getting the iris from an old camera, now that is bright.
any other idea for getting a good but cheap iris?

I would think that plastic lens used in $15 sunglasses would not be the best thing to be looking through. At the very least I would suggest using a lens that does not "wrap around" both eyes. I'm not sure but I think the smallest size lens (Lennon specs) you could find might have the least distortion.

While it is not adjustable, I get self adhesive aluminum stickers, and drill holes in them of 042 or 054.
They are so cheap, I'll give several of them for free to anyone who sends me a SASE.
On a different tangent, why don't ALL pistol shooters use small apertures. From the optical physics it makes perfect sense, but I don't see all the top shooters doing it.
