While at the USA WC, I heard there was some new rule for shoes coming down the ISSF pipes... something about the toe and heels have to be rounded? For example, the Sauer shoes have rather square toes (and/or) heels depending on pistol or rifle.

Is this true? When is this going to be enforced? Is it going to be enforced at the US Nationals less than 2 weeks out?

PS: Yes yes, never mind the silliness of this rule. If they want us to appear like "athletes" then why don't they just say wear track pants and runners and be done with it.

That rule is already compulsory since 01.01.13.

See 7.5.3.6 in the ISSF rulebook for a diagram and explanation.

As for the Sauers, they're still inm a gray area, because the BODY of the shoe back is square, so a square sole does not project more than 0,5 cm from the perpendicular.

Let's see what happens during this year.

Per the Rule Interpretations posted in the ISSF website, "Toes and heels with flat or square surfaces will not be approved." To make them legal you must round both the toe and the heel. This rule is effective beginning with the Munich World Cup later this month.
