Unusual Anschutz Rear Sight

Post by sedwards »

I have an Anchutz rear sight that seems a little unusual. The turrets are 25 clicks / rotation. The base is a long base. I have used a dial indicator to measure the sight movement / click and it is approx 1/3 that of another sight I have that is 10 clicks / rotation. That would indicate a 1/18 MOA / Click. Is this corrent and has anyone else seen a sight like this ?

For comparison, my Anschutz 6805 sights give a little over 6 clicks per MOA while my 7020/20 sights give 17 clicks per MOA. That's with a 36" sightbase (4" extension over a standard Anschutz barrel).

25 clicks per rotation is a bit weird though.

Can you post pictures?

25 clicks per turn of the turret is unusual for Anschutz sights. Every factory sight I've seen has been either 10 or 20. I'm also intrigued by the finer 1/18 Minute adjustment, as I think this would require a different thread on the screws, in combination with 25 clicks turrets, to standard 10 click-1/6 Minute and 20 click-1/12 minute sights.

Are the sights marked Anschutz? This may seem an odd question, but it's quite common for sigths to be replaced, so just because it came from an Anschutz rifle does not mean it was made by Anschutz.

Unusual Sight

The sight is certainly marked Anschutz and it looks exactly like the 6805. It came with a rifle I purchased and I was using it on a 20 yard range which meant each click only made a very small change, making it very difficult to use.

Tim, I'd dispute that the 20 click 7020 sight is 1/12 MOA per click.
I've measured mine as part of my pre-season shakedown and I get 0.015mm per click (0.3mm per 20 clicks).
By my reckoning, on a barrel with a 32" sightbase that would give roughly 16 clicks/MOA.

My 6805 gives 0.4mm for 10 clicks which does work out as 6 clicks/MOA

MOA

You may want to check for a backlash issue with your 7020 sight. To get 1/16 MOA per click with a 7020 sight your sight radius would have to be roughly 42 inches.

Thank you for the suggestion.

It's been checked as part of our team training 2 weeks ago and is as near perfect as I could wish for - returns to zero, consistent movement per click and no backlash or slop.

Unlike one of my OTHER sights...

Please don't take my word for it though (or the manufacturers) - it's easy enough to measure.

Regards.

Hi Ken,

I don't use a 7002. As far as I knew it has the same threading as other Anschutz sights, but I could be wrong (and often have been before). I'd be interested to hear if the 10-click version had 1/8th Minute clicks. Most other German sights use 3/6/12 subdivisions (which correspond to 10/20/30th Miliradians) rtaher than Anglophone 2/4/8.

My Steyr has 20 click turrets and always appeared to take twice the adjustment of my old Anschutz 1/6 Minute sights. If I can remember how to read a vernier I have a go at my new Centra reasight later, and see if it has 1/12 or 1/8 clicks.
