5018 Trigger in a 1407 action

Post by 556Griff »

Is it possible to drop a 5018 trigger into a 1407 action without modifications?

Thanks for the help.

No, for two reasons.

1) The 5018 has a crosspin by the sear that will foul on the underside of your receiver. 1800 and 1900 rifles (which are factory fitted with the 5018) have a relief slot in the action.

2) The trigger sear is in the wrong place for your firing pin. The 1407 firing pin will engage with the sear of a 5018 trigger before the bolt is in battery. Anschutz moved the sear about 2mm backwards for the 5018.

All is not lost. There is a version of the 5018 specifically for 1400 rifles; this is the 5072. The 5071/5075 triggers fitted to 1600 rifles will work with the older 1400 bolt, providing the corsspin (see point 1) is trimmed.

As Tim says the 5071 will work- I have installed a few on older rifles. Also, as Tim says there is a clearance cross slot that is cut into the newer actions that the old actions don't have. See picture 1 below of a new style action with slot. What I have done is to carefully grind a little clearance cross slot into the bottom of the action to provide clearance for the pin. Sounds awful but is easy and works well. Others just trim the ends of the trigger pin. Also shown pic 2 is an old style 5071 trigger with the cross pin.
