Can anybody explain to me under what circumstances do you need need to shoot the pistol grain pellets, and under what circumstances do you need to shoot the heavier grained rifle pallets. Mine is a 1999 Steyr LP-10. Should I purchase both, or stick with one...if so, which type?

You should always use the same. You may find your gun prefers heavier or lighter pellets but you'll only know by testing both, from a rest.

It just don't matter.
Shoot RWS Basics (light); they're cheap.

I have the choice of RWS Match rifle or pistol. I wonder does it matter..when it comes to outdoor, or indoor? I never own any pistol grain pellets so I would not know.

Try them both and see which one your pistol likes best. I wound up using the heavier pellets in my IZZY, because the wide shots were fewer and less far out from the center.
