Bedding - Savage MK 2 & Boyds unfinished Stock

Post by OldBullShooter »

Hello...
I'm replacing the stock on a Savage MK II with a Boyds unfinished stock. Any thoughts on bedding? The original Savage stock looks like it is free-bedded (not resting on the stock, but elevated slightly to appear to float).

Should I adapt the unfinished stock to attempt to replicate (thinking "yes")?
Should I let it rest on the wood (thinking maybe, but prob not)?
Should I bed it on something else and if so, what?

Thanks for any tips.
OBS

PS
The rifle will be used for Junior 4P.

Common practise is to bed the action, usually on a layer of slow-cure metal impreganated epoxy (such as Devcon), and to leave the barrel free floated.

I purchased an unfinished Boyds Tactical stock with a heavy barrel channel.
Out of the box it fit pretty well. I had to mount an accessory rail and so had to monkey around with routing a channel for it in the stock.
