Can any one give me advice on the effect an eagle eye will have on the foresight aperture? I have read somewhere, perhaps from an eye specialist, that an eagle eye of 0.5 (which is what I am using) requires an enlargement of the aperture from, say, 4.00 to 5.00 (again, these are the actual settings that I have been using respectively before and after the magnification). The increase seems to work for me, as does the eagle eye. I should add that I am 65 with characteristic presbyopia for my age, and that I shoot only 25 yards indoor small bore for my local rifle club (no further ambitions), if that is relevant. Hope I have expressed all this clearly and accurately.

Well, however pathetic, I guess I'll have to reply to my own post as no one else has done so. I don't blame them, eagle eyes are not ISSF legal I know, and my situation is right at the bottom of the target rifle world. So, to try to make my original point a little bit more interesting, which would not be difficult you may think, here is a reference to at least one of my sources that I have just re-discovered: can11.gbrt.org.uk/tour-information/age-eye-and-how-compensate-can11. If you can be bothered, look under the second paragraph of the section headed 'What can be done?'. The whole piece is worthwhile for any target rifle shooter of or approaching my age, I think.

to be fair, you did seem to answer your own question.

An eagle eye is a magnifying lens. If it is placed between the foresight and target, it makes the foresight look bigger. If it is placed between the eye and the foresight + target (i.e. at the breech end of the tunnel), it makes both target and foresight larger.

Yes, I have also been told that a 1.0 increase in the foresight aperture is needed for a .5 eagle eye.

Thank you. I suppose I did supply the answer up to a point but I was looking for confirmation that I had made the right increase. It is so easy to fiddle around with all these modern adjustments on your own and think you have got it right, when, in fact, you haven't - much the same would apply to my Gemini butt hook, excellent though it is. My scores fluctuate so much that it is hard to know what is going wrong on any particular occasion! So, I'm very grateful for this reply; at least I don't need to worry further about this detail.

Fluctuating scores is a common problem! At the moment i'm trying to gain a little consistency by not fiddling. My rifle (another gemini) and position work, not perfect, but good enough to get good scores. Beyond a point consistency comes from you.
