Is a stainless steel 1911 legal for CMP?

Post by TCNTN »

I have a stainless steel colt gold cup I want to use for distinguished pistol matches. Is this type finish allowed? I am planning to replace the hammer and safety with a spur hammer and gov't type grip safety.

Yes it is legal, what it is made of does not matter,
Or color, even shocking pink is OK.
You can download the complete rule book by going to the CMP web site.
It will give all the modifications you can make.

Yes. The finish is considered bright.

Thanks for the input. It turns out that I'm not going to use the Gold Cup. I contacted a smith to have the gun accurized, trigger set, and the hammer and grip safety changed out. Smith said stainless wasn't the best to accurize as the stainless would not hold the rails in true as long as carbon steel would. He also thought the Gold Cup slide might be made lighter than the gov't models. I had a series 80 Mark IV and that is what he preferred to work on. I received the gun back in three weeks and it is nice.
