Does anyone know if the case catcher from a Hammerli 280 (-32) fit the newer Sp 20. The appearance suggests it will.

I have only dry fitted one (not shot) and it appears that the ejection port on the SP20 is a little further aft than the 280.
It might work but will require some modification.
Only goodfor training as the hard case will not fit in the box.
I am looking at making one in the style of the Walther or Unique with a cloth bag that willfit inthe box.

Thanks David. I made a fabric catcher for a FAS 603 I once owned. It worked quite well.

Would you by chance have a photo of that catcher? Both of my 603's throw brass in random directions and I have not been able to figure out a functional catcher. Please?

Hello Jim, unfortunately I don't have any pictures, but I remember making two versions. The first was from thin gauge sheet metal bent to encompass three sides of the FAS frame, with another channel shaped piece attached to the ejection side. This was where I attached the toe section from a womans stocking, secured by an elastic band around the channel piece.
I found that it would not eject consistently in this form, so I dremel cut three sides and formed a deflector by bending a radius angled with the lower side on the non ejection side up to the top of the catcher on the ejection side.
This modification worked a charm, and a later modification was to velcroe the bottom of the stocking together. However I traded the FAS in on a GSP .32.
This proved to be a bad move.

Thanks. I think I see where you went with it, but maybe I'll just keep picking up the brass. I do have brass catchers on my GSP and on my 1911 based pistols, but the FAS has always been the outlier. Never considered making a deflector part of the system.
Cheers --- Dr Jim

The deflector made it completely effective and worthwhile.

A well designed deflector never jams and puts most of the cases in one place most of the time

Hi David,
If you make a couple, I will happily pay for one. Sure saves chasing brass around everywhere...
cheers
