HS Victor, E. Hartford pistol, new purchase in 1977. Having smokestacks/stovepipes, regardless of ammo used. Two pistolsmiths have serviced it; problem continues. Tried using a Volquartsen EDM-made extractor I installed myself; problem continues! Can anyone recommend a remedy or a pistolsmith who specializes in High Standards? Thank you!

For free you can try an extremely good cleaning, especially the magazines (inside).

Grip and lube would also be my guess..

If it has been dryfired, the later High Standards had a tendency to peen the chamber wall where the firing pin usually hits brass. The chamber will have a slight bulge inward that when the brass expands to the chamber during firing will have considerable drag on the slide during extraction. A round punch, delicately tapped will solve the problem.

If you go to rimfire central. Click the high standard standard area. Search for Jbars discussion on tuning high standard mags. This will probablly be your solution.
