Hello, The CMP has Kimber 82 rifles for $600. There are quite a few older Anschutz 54's on Gunbroker in the $600 to $700. Which would be a better quality starter target rifle?

Most likely the Anschutz.
Consider this, the Kimber is $600 new the Anschutz is $600-700 used.
The Kimbers are fine for just getting going but lack the refinement of even the older German offerings.
It is also typically easier to get parts and accessories to go with the Anschutz.

I used a 82g my first year and than sold it and bought an Anschutz. My scores went way up, it is all about the trigger.
Hold hard,
