Is there a guide somewhere online to understanding wind affects on .22LR at 100 and 50 yards, and strategies for reading the wind and adjusting clicks appropriately?

The most complete overview on this I have seen is:

"Winning in the Wind" by Lones Wigger and Lanny Bassham. It is an interactive CD. I think it is still available from Champion Shooters Supply.

I generally teach the first step is to learn to stop shooting when winds change and then wait for your wind condition to come back. Clicking for adjusting winds comes later.

With my juniors, I told them to choose one wind flag down range to watch, and shoot only when it was doing the major condition of the day or the standard condition of the range. Once they master that, then move to two wind flags or a windmill and a wind flag.

The next thing I add in is mirage. I usually would suggest ignoring wind flags for a bit while watching only mirage because it takes a bit of extra effort to track mirage through the scope. Once you add the wind flags back in, learn to shoot only in the condition you sight in for, and wait out the other conditions.

Know, though, that different ranges can have different tell tale signs for wind. At my local range, the mirage tells you everything while the flags point in wild directions. Down in Orlando, the wind is at such a wild velocity, but constant direction, the mirage is out of control much of the time, so you just have to watch wind speed.

For about 95% of the time, you will have more than enough time to wait out wind changes. Most of the time you run out of time is when you sight in for a minor wind condition. Clicking for changing wind should be a last resort for when you realize you'll run out of time waiting out conditions. You'll get a feel for doing it over time from the targets you have to rush to finish due to wind.
