I am a recreational 3position air rifle shooter with no thoughts of seriously competing. Used to shoot in the service rifle team as a cadet for a while back in my college days; now don't have the time to go to a range and instead practice daily in my basement with air rifles. However, I greatly enjoy shooting and want to improve for my personal satisfaction.

I am looking for a used compressed air rifle. My knowledge of competition air rifles is very limited and I would appreciate if more experienced people here could help me make an informed choice. My budget is somewhat limited and I am considering the following models-- all used except the last one. If you could help me choose one, keeping in mind that I would be using the rifle for prone and kneeling as well, it will be of great help to me.

i) Walther LG200(wood stock)(used)
ii) Walther LG30(used)
iii) Hammerli Ar20( this is the new model that Champion's Choice is going to offer in a few weeks; though new, this is the cheapest option by a small margin)

I know all the rifles are way more accurate than I ever will be and it's a matter of fitting the rifle, minutiae of trigger or other technical issues. Ideally i would have liked to try the rifles in person, but to the best of my knowledge there are no air rifle clubs in my city and my university does not have a shooting team of any kind.

Don't know whether it's pertinent , but I am a shade over 6' 1'' and when I use a sporter stock to shoot prone, I need a length of pull of 14.5"(front of grip to buttplate) and attach my sling swivel between 27"- 28" from the end of the buttplate.

Thanks for any help and please ask me the right questions that I haven't thought of so that I can make a better decision.

Aluminum stocks offer a lot of adjustment. That could be confusing, and it could offer utility. I prefer the adjustable stock. With the budget in mind, I would get the most deluxe used rifle from any major manufacturer. I think that is better than a new standard "club' rifle. I had a Anschutz 2002, and I now have a 9003. They are really the same rifle, but the 9003 has dry fire. For me the dry fire option was worth my cost in upgrading. Walther and FWB also make fantastic rifles. Air Arms offers a nice multipurpose rifle for under a grand. It is not in the same league as the Olympic rifles, but it is a great rifle for informal work. Roy, I have a used LG30 for sale in the buy, sell trade part of the sight. I used if for a year while I was in Germany and liked it. It is a good starter gun and I have shot better air rifles in the past and didn't feel limited by the LG 30. It still shoots better then I can.
