Orion, the world’s first affordable electronic scoring system, is now available to score indoor smallbore rifle targets. The Orion Scoring System is a new type of electronic scoring system that automates the scoring process for either air rifle or indoor smallbore rifle. With Orion, shooters fire on paper targets similar to traditional 12 bull targets. Once fired, the targets are digitized using commercial scanners. The Orion software reads the target image files, and scores each shot using an image-processing algorithm. Ranked results may then be printed for your competition or practice.

What scoring ring dimensions does Orion support?
Orion indoor smallbore rifle supports the USA Shooting 50-Foot Target dimensions.

How accurate is Orion?
Orion can locate a shot to within 0.10mm. By comparison, electronic scoring targets can achieve the same accuracy but cost $2500 per firing point. Human scoring of paper targets is typically accurate to 0.5mm or worse.

May I use Orion in my USA Shooting sanctioned event?
Yes. Orion is approved for use in USA Shooting sanctioned events, for both indoor smallbore rifle and air rifle.

What type of scanner do I need to run Orion?
Orion's scanner requirements are relatively minimal; in fact most flat bed scanners manufactured in the last five years are likely to work with Orion. Orion directly supports three scanners, one flat bed scanner, and two high-speed scanners. These are the LiDE 700F, DR 3010C, and DR 4010C manufactured by Canon.

What type of workstation do I need to run Orion?
Orion runs on Windows XP, Vista, or 7 workstation. A dual core processor is recommended to speed up the scoring process.

How much does an Orion license cost to score smallbore rifle targets?
The first year Orion license to score indoor smallbore rifle targets is $398. Each subsequent year license is only $78. The license includes the scoring technology, support, and access to all upgrades. A single license for Orion is valid for one user installed on one machine.

Are the licenses for air rifle and indoor smallbore rifle separate?
Yes. “Air Rifle” and “50ft Rifle” are referred to as scoring technologies. If you plan to use Orion to score both air rifle targets and indoor smallbore rifle targets you have to purchase two licenses for the separate scoring technologies.

Can I use my existing smallbore targets with Orion?
No. Orion uses special “Orion Targets” for both air rifle and indoor smallbore rifle. Orion targets have two key features. First, they are made of high quality target paper necessary to produce clean bullet holes suitable for computer aided and accurate scoring. Second, Orion targets are A4 size (8.3 x 11.7in). The reduced size target is needed to fit through commodity scanners. Shooters may use old 10 x 12 in targets as backers for Orion targets enabling them to have the same sight picture.

How much do Orion Targets cost?
Orion targets are $35 per package of 250 targets. Discounts are available when buying in bulk, reducing the cost to as little as $29 per package.

How can I Order Orion?
The Orion Scoring System may be purchased online at http://www.orionscoringsystem.com or by calling 703 596 0099.
