Anyone shooting the Russian CM-2?

I am currently shooting the Adult version with some modifications to the stock and have always been impressed with the accuracy of this rifle.
My 1907 has been sidelined for a while and I'm glad I had this rifle to rely on while I get the 1907 sorted out. I'm just curious if anyone else here is shooting this model.
I replaced the rail since the Russian rail wouldn't accept any standard handstop an that was inexpensive using a champchoice rail for $14. I installed Masterclass adjustable cheekpiece hardware and replaced the buttplate with the MEC140. The thread size for the rear iris on the Russian sight is 9X1m, so none of the aftermarket irises will fit it since they are all 9.5X1m and my Anschutz rear sight is on the rifle right now. The Russian sight is very good and eventually I'll send it off to Altius to have it rethreaded. The front sight is also non standard and I am guessing it is 17mm. I didn't like the inserts that came with the rifle so I carefully downsized plastic inserts and love them. I had the barrel drilled and tapped for a .175 sight block to try and use an 18mm globe but the line of sight was too high for my liking and I went back to the Russian globe.
The trigger is a bit heavy for a match rifle at somewhere near 1 lb. but it is manageable.
The rifle isn't finished like the european rifles and with a current retail of just under $600 you can't expect it to be, but the rifle will definitely shoot well enough to keep you from blaming your 9's on it. I had the opportunity to look at the bore with a friends borescope and the bore is pretty impressive looking with no too marks and very good lands and grooves. It reminded me of a borescope video I saw of a Lilja barrel. There was no attempt to remove the hammer forge marks on the outside of the barrel ( but it looks neat) and it is finished in what must be an epoxy paint. I'm currently shooting Lapua CenterX with it and I'm very happy with union. If anyone is interested in seeing the current setup I will try and figure out how to post a photo.

Thanks for the info

I have one of the old beater CDNN imported ones. Quite tha value at 300 dollars with sights.

Interesting range story. I can across a bench rest shooter shaking his head one day when he was comparing his recently aquired CDNN import CM2 ($300) against his best and most expensive smallbore (nearly $3K) setup. Group sizes need calipers to tell the difference (50 yards). The CM2 was shooting wolf match and the other rifle was shooting tenex something at 3x the price. The $3K set up was shooting better but not by much. I ordered one that afternoon. Very pleased with mine.

We have a set (4) of the CM-2 Cadets that we use for our beginning and smaller shooters.

Have changed out the rails as well as put sight extension tubes on them. All will shoot just at or under 1" at 100 yd (in a windless tunnel).

We had a shooter here in NM that was coming off back problems who qualified (1st round invite) and fired very well in the JO's this past April with the CM-2. We chose this rifle for her because of the light weight. She is probably moving to a personal 1912 this year, but the CM-2 does our club well

I haven't figured out how to post pictures here, but here is a link to another website where I posted several pictures.

Hi Charlotte,

Some great pictures there, thanks a lot for sharing! CM-2 was my first rifle when I started shooting 25+ years ago. I have shortly transitioned to "standard" Ural-6, a then to the "free" Ural-5-1. All were great, relatively inexpensive rifles at the time, with the CM-2 most affordable and surprisingly accurate for the price. Glad to see the rifle/brand is still holding its value!

By the way, I live in Roswell, GA. After many years of being unable to shoot I'm looking for adult smallbore/air shooting enthusiasts in Atlanta area. So far for 7 years I was only able to meet with the North Georgia University coach, JP O'Connor, but he only works with young collegiate shooters.

Have a great weekend,

Yuriy

Yuriy,
I live in Woodstock and shoot at Riverbend Gun Club which is about 26 miles from my house. We have a smallbore prone match every month March through November and a light rifle offhand match every month May through Oct. (currently skipping the Sept. light rifle match because of scheduling conflicts).
We would love to have you come shoot with us and you don't have to be a member to compete in any of our matches. The range is one of the best, the people are great and the match director is the best. You are too close to not come check it out. Our next match is in two weeks on the 17th and 18th. It is a conventional 3200. Come shoot with us.

im shooting one. Years ago when I was highly active I shot a shul 150, then a Kimber 82G, and later a 1913. Due to family obligations im only shooting loca competitions twice a year... but the CM-2 will shoot as you are well aware.

The main issues as you know are:
that stupid forend rail... replaced mine with an anschutz
the sights... There is a gentleman who will cut custom sizes from acryllic for the front in england...

mine still looks pretty much like this...

That is the longest sight extension tube I've ever seen.
I replaced my rail also. I think the last tweak I'll do with my CM-2 is that I'm going to have the rear sight re threaded to 9.5x1 to accept my gehman iris. I'm using my Anschutz rear sight on it right now but my 1907 issue has been figured out and just needed bedding, so it will be returning to the firing line next season and I don't want to be swapping it back and forth.
A very surprising rifle considering the price

That was one of the first tubes I was playing with.... the current configuration looks like this...

I was certanly too long... but it did the trick for testing ammo, and shooting at 200yds.
