Hey,
What are the major differences between leather and canvas shooting equipment?
Thanks!

Assuming you are talking about shooting clothes...
Essentially all of the major makers of shooting clothing offer jackets and pants in canvas, leather, and a combination, and in a few cases, other materials as well, like rubber, the new stiff weave from Hi-Tex, etc.

That said, canvas generally stays stiffer, longer. It's also harder to clean if you get it dirty, but it generally costs less. Leather is more expensive, softens more, and some people think it adds a touch of elegance to the clothing. Leather can also last a long time and resist wearing for a long time. I'm speaking in generalizations here because there are different types of leather that are used on different areas of the clothing, some for looks, some for utility.

So adding leather adds some good looks and some wearability, but I would not claim that it makes the clothes fit any better. If they do fit better in one area or another due to the addition of leather, it will be because the leather is soft. That would be fine, for example, in the upper cape part of a jacket, but I wouldn't want it in the waist or seat of the pants as the primary material-- you'll lose support to the softness.

In no case would I argue that you'll shoot better scores with leather vs. canvas clothing. There are far too many factors at play. If you'd like more info feel free to email me at info -at- 10pt9 dot com.
