My son currently shoots IAP but wants to try IAR and I'm fine with getting an inexpensive rifle for him to shoot with. But, after looking at all of the clothing and accessories involved it really is much more expensive than IAP. Can a newbie IAR shoot NRA tournaments in street clothes or is it required to have all of the clothing to compete?

If the match is NRA rules you can shoot in what you wish. Issf is different as contracts with medis outlets influence the dress. The rulling body is [apparently] trying to have the shooters appear more sporty for greater exposier to the non-shooting public. Just one mans opinion but I doubt if this will have any lasting effect on the general publics opinion of firearms and air guns. Good Shooting Bill Horton

Sure you can shoot in street clothes, but for the very minimum I'd say wear a sweatshirt (or two), flat shoes (tennis or skateboarding), and use a ski glove or a couple of work gloves inside each other. It's a great way of just trying it out! Good for him! Keep in mind that if he likes it & wants to continue, used gear is a fine way of saving $$$. PL
