European Airgun Championships - Top Gun Competition

Post by David Levene »

At the recent European Air Championships the organisers hosted an experimental "Top Gun" competition.

It is available online, in various languages, HERE.

Great idea and hopefully will attract more shooters to the sport. However, it needs air time so the public see it. I would like to see the Top Gun air rifle event as well.
It reminded me a little of the old bell target leagues way back when they shot them in the pubs. Every time the bell rang for a 10, there was a big cheer from the crowd.

It was shown on Eurosport a couple of weeks ago. It's a start.

The air rifle event is shot in tracksuits, shooting jackets/trousers/boots are banned.

That looks like a lot of fun. Quite refreshing. I learned recently that 3XAir here in the States, now called that Winter Airgun championships, used to be called Top Gun.

Exact same format in this video including men and women shooting together. The difference was that Top Gun in the States included a bit of a fashion/costume show by the competitors. Men would be in tuxes and top hats, I heard that some women dressed up like Super Woman... very irreverent by modern competitive standards. And a lot of fun for both participants and spectators I would imagine.

Not a great idea I think.
And what after in the same way :
- slalom sking in street shoes
- horse races without horses
- fencing without protection or without sword
- footing races without shoes
- biathlon with sarbacane
It's a funny event, not the shooting sport, we dont have see the scores. The rifle peaople are out, but the gun man have avantage.
It's only my idea.
Make a show like this, no thank.
We have a great sport keep it clean and as he is.
It's not an easy way.
Good WE everyone

Reverent silence is fine.

For Carthusians. :-)

(Great movie about the Grande Chartreuse, "Le Grand Silence" - has someone seen it?)
