Converting a FT Rifle to a 3 Position Rifle

Post by mnrok »

Has anyone converted a Field Target style rifle to a 3 position rifle with any success??

I would like to convert my Daystate MK 3 FT to a 3 position or Olympic style target rifle.

It has an electronic trigger that is adjustable down to 6 oz and an adjustable power setting from 900 fps down to below 400 fps with a very small spread in the fps. (I would be shooting about 570 fps)
It has a thumbhole stock that would need to be replaced with a stock with adjustable butt, forearm/sling and cheekpiece.

The barrel shroud would be removed and have a sight extension tube and front sight and rear sight installed.

I don't have any high goals in mind, just some good 3 position shooting with the rifle I have now!

I know that skill/talent/training play a very big part,
but are there any major problems with trying to convert this type rifle to a 3 position rifle??

Like so many, I'm a previous NCAA smallbore shooter that still enjoys the game!!

Thanks for your input!!

Wouldn't have thought so, there's plenty of Daystates in the UK that get custom stock treatment.

As far as it goes, I think it would be fine.

The only problem is that with the electrics, there is a larger than normal distance between trigger and barrel... but it's worth a go... :)
