reaction time

For those who like to "ambush" the bull as it wanders by your sights the following might be a wake-up for you. For others it's just fun. Try it after a couple of beers, too.

I remember a time when my reaction time became so fast thet I believed that I could flinch before the bullet could exit the muzzle. Clearly an over estimate on my part but perceptions are very close to reality when shooting. I had become involved in kararte and my physical conditition had changed from my normal rather sedentary approach to physical conditioning. Since shooting was far more important than karate I went back to my more normal conditioning routeen. I favored long hours of dry firing , some distance running , and a good nights rest prior to competitions. This may not suffice for other shooters but it seemed to work for me. A fast reaction time may actually be a detriment to bullseye. If your trigger pull is not smooth, it would all be for naught. Bill, I am with you. I think you should have a routine and stick to it. Brian Zins drinks no coffee during shooting season and does some light exercise and eats a turkey sandwich about an hour before he shoots. I find I do better if I eat at least an hour before I shoot although if I have eatern two hours or more before I shoot I sometimes nibble on some crackers and jerky to keep my blood sugar from tanking while I am shooting. I shoot better in the evening and afternoon than I usually do in the morning. If I am on first relay I need to get up early. Isabel

1.88 with no beers. that was my best seeing that my other 10 tries had penalties. . I suggest for someone that likes beer to go buy a 12 pack, do the reaction time test, drink ahalf beer , retest and repeat untill beer is gone. Post your results and tell your wife its all in the name of science.

That is fun. I did several in the low .2's with a few individual just under .2. Requires good reaction of course but included in that it takes good visual attention and concentration.

The times sound about right. A general rule of thumb is it takes an average person .2 second to see something, process that info and then react to it.

For some reason my best average was posted after a few drinks!! :) On the other hand my single best so far is 0.031s! To be fair about that one, I began to anticipate the colour change; more often than not I blew it and got a penalty!

OK, best average so far: 0.131s - that was after 2 glasses of wine. I don't know why, but I do seem to do better after a couple of drinks!??
