I have experimented with several sighting techniques since starting target shooting last August but I still can't seem to decide what I should be doing. I am currently using Varga Glasses with a Adjustable Iris (on smallest aperture size) and a blinder. This has improved my group size especially in the precision series although I still tend to revert to no glasses and both eyes open for the rapid fire part of Centrefire competitions. The other week I shot my best ever Centrefire score using one eye only (squinting).

People have mentioned the stability issues arising from using an Iris and squinting but what is worse is that in order to use the Iris I have to squint as even with the blinder I get a small amount of double vision so this is dramatically reduced the amount of vision for stability issues and has meant bracing my feet differently in order to maintain stability but even so I just shot me best Standard Pistol score with this technique. To use the Iris with a blinder correctly would require the Iris being much closer to my eye then currently set at (like literally a few mm from the eye) which seems to negate the blinder all together.

I tried side blinders but it just felt to enclosed but I did not repeat trying them.

Any help appreciated.

Have you had a lens made to fit the circular holder on your glasses that will focus your shooting eye on the front sight only ? If not, this may be the reason for your squinting. When you shoot centrefire precision, leave your glasses on but open the iris right up. Closing one eye is not the best way to acquire the target. Hope this helps

I do not have a lens at the moment - I have perfect vision last time tested earlier in year so assumed not required, obviously it is so I will make Optician appointment. Thanks for the help.
