Butt Plate Length Adjustment

Post by Ptarmigan »

Hi everyone, I was hoping you could help me with some information.
I realize that there is no standard answer to this question but was hoping
to get a general idea. I'm installing an adjustable butt plate on my rifle
and have just started shooting 3p, but haven't shot kneeling yet. From what
I've read in ways of the rifle, in kneeling position you might need to shorten
your length of pull. I'm wondering how much shorter lop to allow for from
where I've currently had it positioned with shims.

I'm pretty average sized 5'9" 150lbs.

How much does your butt plate position regarding length of pull change between positions?

Even if you aren't my size your input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Sean

As you mentioned it will be a bit different for everyone but I have mine similar for standing/kneeling (about 1/4" longer for standing) and then about 3/4" inch out further for prone.

A good point to start with in kneeling is your prone settings. The main thing you'll change right off the bat is lowering the butt plate. As you said, you will likely move your butt plate in, but it's length will likely be closer to prone than your standing setting. This is true for me, though I'm 6-2, but it has worked for a number of fellow shooters and juniors I coach. In the end, put it where you like it.
