I just acquired a FWB65 at an estate auction. The head of the screw that joins the cocking arm to the pistol has been grinding a groove in the upper part of the lower (aluminum?) when the upper slides back at firing. I assume it is not supposed to be doing this!

Any insights into the cause of the problem and any fixes? Should I be hesitant to disassemble and tinker myself?

This is my first "springer", so I'm not sure what is "normal". There's a really pronounced SPROING when it is fired, as well as a bit of recoil. I assume the recoil is due to the above-mentioned mechanical interference hampering the recoil-less operation.

I have observed this problem sith two old and very well used 65s. Tip ow screw wearing a deep grove into the alu frame (lower recoil "rail".
I, back than, reconed the problem was caused by use of non-original screw (too long).

Easy fix Tom,

Remove the grip and then remove the screws that hold the upper and lower reciver together (be mindful of their original position.) You can tighten the offending screw, or better; remove the screw, clean, and apply a dab of non-permanent thread-lock before reassembly. If the screw is too long, and you trust your skills, you can shorten the screw in .5mm increments until you are satified with the fit.
