novice to RFP. would be very grateful if someone could provide the basics. How tight should I be holding. Do you take the shot whilst the pistol is still moving, or is the pistol stationary for each shot. Also, what target do you align onto to begin with.

First, there is an excellent article on RF in the Pilkguns Guide (follow the pilkguns.com link).

But as to your questions...

You want to hold fairly tight. Work on shooting one 10 from the raise. Then work on shooting two 10s. Get that down cold.

The gun should be stationary for each shot. Turn your upper body like a tank turret...the head/shoulder/body relationship should stay locked.

Most (right-handed) shooters align on the rightmost target.

Start position: Set your natural point of aim on the center tarfget and wind up to the first target on the right [For right handed shooter] Set your wrist in its natural position and firm the muscles that hold the wrist stiffened. time breathng so that when the targets turn you have locked your breath and be mentally ready to raise to the first target.Start the raise on the first flicker of the turning target.the trigger pressure should start before you finish the raise and stop in you aiming area. Try to perfect sight allignment before the pistol fires. ths should be a controled shot rsulting in a ten. The instant the pistol fires begin your movement to-words your next target. Start the trigger finger moving as soon as you are inside the scoring rings of this target. Stop in your aiming area and try to perfect sight allignment before the shot is fired. Repeat three more times. Good Shooting Bill Horton PS Try to contact John McNally or the fineshooter coming into form in San Antonio For the best advice available in the US

All good advice, but if you're new to rapid fire don't start off trying to shoot the 5 targets. Initially start on a single target and then build in the timing element. Once you're able to nail the first shot in 3 secs, then move on to shooting targets 1 and 2. Then increase it until you have all 5 (in 8 secs).

Thanks Rob , you are dead on/ One more tip for this very difficuld course of fire. Keep your eye focus on the front sight as you transition from the first target to the next. Dont change eye focus . The targets dont move but maintaining sight allignment is a real challenge as all the movement involved in traversing across the targets makes this the most demanding element in firing a good controlled string.
