Schuetzenverein

I am aware of German/American air pistol/rifle clubs in St. Louis, Chicago, Cincinnati, Peoria and Auburn Hills. However, is there any ONE web site that has contact information for other such clubs?

Hi! I am a member of the Boerne Shooting Club (Schuetzenverein) here in Boerne, Texas. We are the oldest active continuous shooting club in the United States. We hold practice shoots 3 times per month and a medal shoot once a month. In addition, we compete against other Schuetzenverein's in the Hill Country area of Texas. Very cool. I shoot in a Pennsylvania league that has 6 teams, and we shoot matches Tuesday evenings for 22 weeks during the winter months. The league has shot for over 70 years. Some current members have shot matches during WW2. It is really part of my life. Best wishes in your participation.

Very cool! I am from the North having grown up in Rhode Island but never knew about the Schuetzenvereins until moving down South. Do you have a website for your club?

Very cool, indeed. The longevity of these clubs is amazing. There is a Schuetzen club in my county (Vermont Township, Dane County, Wisconsin) that has been having monthly matches for more than 100 years -- Not the oldest club in the US, but still impressively long. Just a bunch of Germans and Norwegians getting together to solve the world's problems and do a little shooting . . .

I guess the league I shoot with is not an "Schuetzen" organization. At least it is not strictly imported from Germany. We do follow the tradition of solving the worlds problems and a little shooting. My league was founded before WW2, and it has been in existence since then. The teams are "housed" in firehalls, community builds, gun clubs, and in the past some barns. Now there is six teams, and the membership looks pretty consistent. In the past there has been 8 or more teams. Each team has about 15 -25 shooters. Team score is based on the 8 top scores. All shots are off hand, any sights at 9 meters. 9 meter rule was set due to the maximum distance available in some barns when the league started. If a team does not have 8 shooters, they must forfeit, but everyone shoots for score. We start in October, break for hunting in December, and resume in January. We shoot 22 Tuesday matches, so it consumes most of the long winter in Pennsylvania. At the end of the season there is a dinner with awards. Certainly defining the league is an individual's perspective, but I feel it is a social club for marksman. During the summer months, most members shoot smallbore silhouette.
