Will Anschutz 64 action fit into Anschutz 54 stock?

I've seen a couple of nice Anschutz stocks come up for sale lately but they are for a 54. I have an old Anschutz 64 match and was wondering if it would fit a 54 stock? If the only difference is the holes for mounting, that's no problem because I can just drill the holes in the correct place.

thanks

No, a Match 64 action will not fit straight into a Match 54 stock. The bedding bolts are in different places; the Match 54 (1400, 1600, 1800, and 1900) both bolts ahead of the trigger, the Match 64 has one behind the trigger, and one under the front receiver ring.

The main problem is the size of the action. The Match 54 is longer and larger in diameter than the Match 64.

To fit a 64 in a 54 stock you would need drill new holes for the bedding bolts (the rear bolt might need to pass through the grip on a thumbhole Supermatch stock), probably cut a new notch for the bolt handle, and then to properly bed the action with a suitable epoxy resin, or chisel out the stock and machine an aluminium adaptor block.

It might be less hassle to sell the Match 64 and to buy a second-hand Match 54. The 54 will have a better trigger and more scope for upgrading in the future.
